Obelisk Billiard Club

“How do you pronounce-OBELISK?”

“What is an OBELISK?”

“Why do you call it the

OBELISK BILLIARD CLUB

“Who named it the OBELISK?”

“What does an obelisk have to do with playing pool?”

These are but a few of many often repeated questions we hear on a daily basis at the OBC.

Pronunciation:  OB-E-LISK

OB as in Bob -Short E-Lisk

An obelisk is an upright 4-sided usually monolithic pillar that gradually tapers as it rises and terminates in a pyramid or conical top. As a structure, the obelisk has a very rich and varied history. Over the centuries, many differing attributes have been assigned to the meaning of the obelisk. They include everything from remarkable mathematics to an image of power and protection to a symbol of death and remembrance to a concept of resurgence and renewal. As a structure, the obelisk is unique and easily identifiable. Most find it to be rather appealing. Our nation’s tribute to George Washington is in the form of an obelisk at the Washington Monument   in Washington D.C. and stands as our nation’s remembrance at Bunker Hill in Boston. In 1988, as we were in the process of creating the OBC, we strongly felt that this new venture was truly unique and appealing and searched for a name and a logo that reflected such feeling.

What does an OBELISK have to do with playing  pool ??

ABSOLUTELY  NOTHING!!

…but it was Wendy’s idea and we let her have her way with the name as long as we had control

of everything else regarding the game of pool!!!

And that’s all there is to how the name OBELISK BILLIARD CLUB came into being.
